DETROIT, MI – On Friday July 9th, 2021, at approximately 1:50 AM, a Michigan State Police trooper was on patrol on southbound I-75 near Clark when they heard gunfire coming from behind the patrol vehicle. Two SUV’s then went past the patrol car in the right lane at a high rate of speed.
Troopers activated their emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the suspect vehicles. The suspect drivers failed to stop for the emergency lights and siren and fled. One of the vehicles, a Chevy Equinox, lost a tire and stopped at I-75 near Dearborn.
The Equinox had several bullet holes in the windshield and back of the vehicle. The second SUV was last seen on I-75. Troopers had closed the freeway and are working to determine the relationship between the two suspects.
The freeway has reopened. Detectives are continuing to interview the driver and passengers of the Equinox. Anyone with information or witnessed the shooting is asked to contact the Metro South Post at 734.287.5000.
