Chief White addresses media on Chalmers Street Banquet Hall Shooting

DETROIT, MI – Chief White addressed the media today in reference to the shooting that took place at the Chalmers Banquet Hall in the 9800 block of Chalmers Street on Tuesday July 13th, 2021.

The suspect is known to those who he shot. He was arrested within a matter of hours of the incident. It is estimated that over 100 people were at the banquet hall at the time of the shooting.

The owners of the Chalmers Banquet Hall were unlicensed and is being shut down by Detroit Police and by the City of Detroit. The building has not been properly licensed since 2013. There have been problems at this business in the past. Chief White is insistent that if crime occurs at your business, it will be subject to a thorough investigation. It is the responsibility of business owners to ensure the safety and security of their patrons.

Six people were shot. Three men and three women. The age range of the victims is from 26 to 46-years-old.  Police have said that the man who died was 30-years-old and was in a wheelchair at the time that he was fatally shot . The rest of the victims are expected to recover.

Surveillance cameras from Green Light locations along with other footage from businesses in the area are being poured over to determine exactly what did take place.
