GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, MI – On Wednesday July 14th, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police Cadillac Post responded to a stabbing on the side of the roadway near south M-32 and Cour Avenue in Mayfield Township.
Troopers arrived on scene and spoke with those involved and witnesses. The investigation revealed that a mother, daughter and two grandchildren had gone on a camping trip in the Upper Peninsula and were returning to the mother’s home in Mesick. The daughter and children typically come to visit in the summer to see her mother.
The mother, a 64-year-old woman from Mesick, alleged that she and her daughter, a 45-year-old woman from Havelock, North Carolina, had been arguing the entire trip to her home in Mesick. The daughter lit a cigarette in the backseat of the car and refused to put it out. The mother pulled over to confront her daughter and that is when the stabbing occurred. The knife, a 3-inch folding knife, was recovered at the scene. The daughter from North Carolina was arrested and lodged in the Grand Traverse County Jail.
The mother was treated by Blair EMS and then by Munson Medical Center for a laceration to her forearm and is expected to fully recover.
