MADISON HEIGHTS, MI – On Monday July 19th, 2021, at approximately 5:23 a.m., the Madison Heights Police Department (MHPD) was called to 32703 Stephenson, the Rodeway Inn, on a report of a noise disturbance.

Officers were directed to a room where the disturbance was heard and a welfare check was conducted. At that time, Officers located the deceased victim in the motel room. The victim sustained an apparent gunshot wound to the torso. The victim was a 29 year old woman from Detroit.

Officers determined the woman resided at the motel with man who was not at the scene. Officers identified the man who was residing with the victim and searched the area for him. MHPD Officers located the 20 year old Detroit hiding behind a dumpster at a gas station located at 14 Mile and Stephenson. The suspect was taken into custody and the handgun suspected to be used in the incident was also recovered near the suspect.

MHPD Detectives are still investigating and will be forwarding the case to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office for review and authorization of appropriate charges. The name of the victim will not be released until all notifications have been made.
