PETOSKEY, MI. On Tuesday, July 20th, 2021, at approximately 3:11 a.m. troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Gaylord Post were dispatched to an apartment located on Meadow Way in Petoskey for a 911 hang-up call.
Troopers arrived and spoke with the caller. The caller alleged her ex-boyfriend had broken into her apartment, stole her cell phone from her hands as she was calling 911, and fled the venue. The victim was not harmed during the incident.
Troopers were unable to locate the suspect, 20-year-old Samuel Allen Spaleny from Indian River. A report was submitted to the Emmet County Prosecutor’s Office for review. A warrant was authorized and Spaleny was arrested without incident on the evening of July 28th and lodged in the Emmet County Jail.
Spaleny was arraigned in the 90th District Court in Emmet County for one count Home Invasion First Degree, one count Interfere with a Telecommunications Device, and one count Theft in a Building. His bond was set at $15,000 cash surety. His next scheduled court appearance is on September 8, 2021.
Troopers were assisted by deputies from the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Petoskey Department of Public Safety.
