BIG RAPIDS, MI – On Wednesday August 4th, 2021, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Big Rapids Police Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of South State Street for a gunshot victim.

A vehicle was seen leaving the area as responding officers arrived on the scene. Additional officers attempted to complete a traffic stop on the vehicle. The suspect vehicle fled from officers through the City of Big Rapids and into the County of Mecosta. The suspect vehicle eventually stopped and the suspect surrendered to officers without additional injuries to himself or the pursuing officers.

The intoxicated suspect was identified as a 22-year-old Stanwood male. The suspect admitted to being involved in the shooting. The suspect was lodged at the Mecosta County Jail and is awaiting arraignment. The victim was transported to Grand Rapids for non-life-threatening injuries.
