GUN PLAINS TOWNSHIP, MI - On Sunday, January 27th, 2019, deputies from the Allegan County Sheriff\u2019s Office responded to a multi-vehicle crash on M-89 at 2nd St in Gun Plains Twp. at approximately 6:30PM.\r\nAccording to witnesses an east bound vehicle on M-89 went to pass other vehicles traveling in the same direction around 6th St. however, upon doing so, the passing vehicle stayed in the west bound lanes instead of returning to its east bound travel lane. Around 2nd St a small line of west bound vehicles came upon this vehicle in the wrong lane and the first west bound vehicle was able to avoid it. The second west bound vehicle attempted to avoid the vehicle however it was sideswiped near the rear of the vehicle sending it into the ditch. The third west bound vehicle was unable to avoid the east bound vehicle and collided with it.\r\nA deputy from the Allegan County Sheriff\u2019s Office and an officer from the Plainwell Dept. of Public Safety arrived to find the at-fault driver\u2019s injuries to be fatal injuries. The driver\u2019s child, who was secured in a booster seat, was pinned into the backseat and received multiple injuries, however these injuries appear to be non-life threatening.\r\nThe deceased driver was identified as Kalyn Ann Cole, 25-years-old, of Benton Harbor. All of the individuals from the west bound involved vehicles appear to have minor and\/or non-life threatening injuries.\r\nAssisting at the scene were Plainwell Department of Public Safety, Plainwell EMS, Gun Plains Fire Department, Otsego Fire Department, Michigan State Police and Calhoun County Sheriff\u2019s Office Victims Services. The crash remains under investigation.
