MARQUETTE, MI - Jacob Charles Maki, 35-years-old, of Baraga, Michigan, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 27 months\u2019 imprisonment for assault by strangulation, U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Miles, Jr., announced on October 27th, 2015.\r\nIn addition, Judge R. Allan Edgar sentenced Maki to serve 3 years of supervised release following the completion of his term of incarceration.\r\nOn Saturday, February 28th, 2015, Maki assaulted a victim. The assault began in the bedroom and continued into the bathroom where Maki pinned the victim in the tub and used his hands to strangle her.\r\nOn Sunday, March 1st, 2015, he resumed the assault and repeatedly strangled the victim. Maki was indicted by a federal grand jury and pled guilty on June 22nd, 2015, to one count of assault by strangulation.\r\nThe Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Tribal Police and the FBI investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Hannah N. Bobee prosecuted the case.
