HUNTINGTON, W. VA - On Sunday August 5th, 2019, around 11:30 p.m., Carol Ann Brooks, 74-years-old, was crossing 9th Avenue in Huntington at the 11th Street intersection when she was struck and killed by a hit and run driver in a vehicle traveling east bound.\r\nAt that time Huntington Police Chief Hank Dial said "We need to find out who they are and capture them."\r\nThrough the investigative work of the Huntington Police Department, members of the Huntington Violent Crime and Drug Task Force were able to arrest Jermaine D. Baird, of Detroit.\r\nJermaine Baird, 29-years-old, also known as \u201cGucci,\u201d was arrested on Thursday August 29th. He has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.\r\nHuntington Police allege that Baird fled the scene after Carol Brooks was struck and killed. The vehicle that is believed to have been driven at the time of the accident was later recovered in Detroit.\r\nJermaine Baird also had outstanding warrants for being a fugitive from justice in Ohio and being in possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.\r\nBaird has a lengthy criminal record that he has racked up based on records from the Michigan Department of Corrections. He has previous convictions for the following:\r\n\r\n\r\n \t2 counts of Police Officer - Assault\/Resist\/Obstruct\r\n \t2 counts of Unlawfully Driving Away an Automobile\r\n \t2 counts of Stolen Property - Receiving and Concealing - Motor Vehicle\r\n \t2 counts of Police Officer - Fleeing - Second Degree - Vehicle Code\r\n \tControlled Substance-Possess Narcotic\/Cocaine < 25 Grams - Attempt\r\n \tPolice Officer - Fleeing - Third Degree - Vehicle Code\r\n\r\nBaird is currently being held in the Western Regional Jail on a $105,000 bond.\r\nDisclaimer: Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of information posted on this website and its affiliated social media.
