REDFORD, MI - A 17 year old student was shot while walking to Thurston High School at about 7:30 this morning.\r\nDarien McNeil is recovering at Botsford Hospital from non life threatening injuries that he sustained when he was shot while walking to his high school in Redford.\r\nThe shooting happened in the area of Kendall at Crosley. (East of Beech Daly, north of Schoolcraft)\r\nA suspect vehicle has been described as a green, four-door Ford with no hub caps. Reports initially indicated the vehicle may also have had black rims, which was occupied by two suspects.\r\n\r\nPolice say Darien McNeil had a previous encounter with one of the passengers in the green Ford. At this time, police say it does not appear the victim was selected at random.\u00a0 It appears as though the parties involved in the shooting this morning know each other and have issues with each other. The victim was targeted because of this.\r\nThree schools still under lock down. They are Thurston High School, Jane Addams Elementary and Shear Pre-School.\u00a0 They remain on lock down because of the proximity of the shooting.\u00a0 All precautions are being taken.\r\nThe district enacted their "Shelter in Place" procedures. They have locked the doors and students will not be allowed outside. However, inside the building classes are being held as usual.\r\nIt must be noted that the shooting did not happen at the school.\u00a0 The student was shot while on his way to the high school.\r\nPolice are continuing to investigate the incident.\u00a0 If you have any information, call either 911 or (313) 387-2555 immediately.
