LANSING, MI - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources today announced that, due to the dangerously cold weather, it has canceled several outdoor programs and events scheduled for this weekend, particularly in the Upper Peninsula where temperatures are forecasted to be below\u00a0zero (Fahrenheit)\u00a0with wind chill. \r\nVisitors are advised to call in advance to check for event cancellations. A listing of park phone numbers is available on the DNR\u2019s website at www.michigan.gov\/dnr.\r\n Contact information also is provided for each event on the DNR\u2019s GO-Get Outdoors calendar at www.michigan.gov\/gogetoutdoors.\r\nOne of the canceled events is the lantern-lit cross-country ski event at Bewabic State Park, which was scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14.\r\n\u201cThe cold temperatures and wind chill will not only make people uncomfortable,\u201d said Bewabic State Park Supervisor Kasey Mahony, \u201cbut also may cause weather-related safety risks and injury.\u201d\r\nBewabic State Park currently is not planning to reschedule the event because staff is busy making preparations for the spring and summer seasons. Other events may be rescheduled based on park staff availability.
